An academic paragraph

During this unit we learned the process of writing a good academic paragraph. Previously, in other English courses, my teacher at that time taught to me basic rules about writing a paragraph. However, in the class I learned a lot more because the leaning process helped me remember the details. Personally, ppts and group exercises exercises were useful to practice and make it easier to understand also the teacher’s explanation, and the worksheets were helpful too. One of the exercises was about a worksheet, we had to analyze whether which of the five paragraphs were correct or not. Moreover, we did an exercise that involved analyzing another classmate's paragraph.

One of the difficulties I found was to find out the acceptable paragraphs. Some of them were easy to identify, however, others seemed to be fine, but they were not. If I want to write a paragraph in order that it has unity, I will need to practice more. I truly believe I can increase my knowledge with the exercises on blackboard. Another difficulty I found during the unit was that we had to apply what we learned since week 1. Since I obtained a good grade on my outline paragraph, I felt more confidence that I could achieve the goal for this unit. Finally, this week’s topic was crucial and very helpful for any career. From now, I will apply all the knowledge acquired in this unit, for example, for essays, papers, etc. The task for this week was to write an academic paragraph, I feel very happy because I got a good grade.

Academic sources

The goal for this unit was learning more about plagiarism and how to support the arguments with evidence using APA style. The ppts and documents on blackboard helped me understand better about academic sources. We started the unit watching a video about plagiarism. This video helped a lot because it solved my doubts. According to the APA style, the hand outs were useful. In the past, I have always had trouble with appropriate citation; however, I will keep these two documents on blackboard for my personal use due to its concise information. Moreover, the exercises in class allowed me to practice harder and differentiate paraphrasing, summarizing and quoting. I found the chart below particularly interesting because it is very clear and easy to understand. Besides, we did many exercises about paraphrasing and summarizing. Since they are very similar, I really got a little bit confused; however, I could practice better in padlet during class. Personally, I bel

The sentence

In this unit, the goal was to be aware about the sentence structure in academic texts. We learned types of sentences, parts of speech and sentence problems and "fanboys" which is an acronym for 7 coordinating conjunctions. My reflection for this week is that it was difficult to fully understand sentence problems: stringy, wordy, choppy and run on sentences. I had to read many times the material on blackboard. However, the exercises in class were helpful, after class I revised the documents for couples of hours. According to parts of speech, since I previously studied English as a course, I had a better knowledge on the topic. Finally "fanboys" were easy to learn, I find the acronym very dynamic. It was learning the coordinating conjunctions. Finally, at the end of the week, we had to do a test about our understanding of the unit. I did the test; nevertheless, I did not get the grade I expected. For this reason, I challenged myself to get better for the nex

An argumentative essay

The learning goal for this week is writing a good essay, using the appropiate structure: introduction, body and conclusion. Furthermore, it is important to do a previous outline and make a draft of your essay. One of the most important parts of an essay is the thesis statement. An effective thesis statement explains what your are going to write about and how you are going to make it.                      During class, we did exercises to understand better about making a good thesis statement. Honestly, the exercises in groups allowed to enhance my knowledge about essay and to be able to see many points of view of each classmate. First, we were asigned to write an argumentative essay. There were two parts, the first one was to write a draft of an argumentative essay. I chose the topic "Online learing" because since the pandemic of Covida-19, university students had to take online courses in order to continue with their studies and
